Abstract

The results of an investigation into the possibility of applying a device based on a 10B neutron counter (CHM-14) with a polyethylene moderator as the dosimeter of neutron ambient dose equivalent H*(10) in radiation fields of nuclear physics installations at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) are presented. It is shown that the device can be used as the dosimeter of this quantity in the neutron energy range from 0.4 eV to 20 MeV with an error no larger than 30% due to the difference between the energy dependence of its response and the energy dependence of the neutron ambient dose equivalent. Applying the correction coefficients allows one to extend the energy range of neutron dose H*(10) measurement to hundreds MeV. The error due to the anisotropy of the device response does not exceed 35%.
