Abstract

The distribution networks in China and many other countries are mostly neutral inefficiently grounding systems (NIGS), and more than 80% of the faults in the distribution networks are single phase to ground (SPG) faults. Due to the weak fault current and imperfect detection equipment configuration, the faulted line section location methods of the SPG fault in NIGS has not been effectively resolved. The development and application of $\mu$M-PMU provides more comprehensive fault information support for fault diagnosis of distribution network. When a SPG fault occurs, the transient energy of the faulted line section is greater than the sum of the transient energy of other line sections. A faulted line section location algorithm based on transient energy is proposed. The algorithm is implemented and embedded in the master station, and the corresponding interface is designed. A field test plan was designed and implemented in a 35kV distribution network. The test results show that the algorithm can locate the faulted line section efficiently.
