Abstract

From the standpoint of machining center (MC) users, the author has developed a practical approach to estimate the motion errors of cutter paths caused by NC servo characteristics of MC driving axes. For further improving the convenience of the approach in application, a simple method to estimate the necessary parameter values is presented in this paper to replace the KGM measurement. Furthermore, the approach is also applied for a newer model of MC to confirm its applicability. Through comparing the simulated cutter path trajectories and the workpiece profile errors due to the same movement condition, two main conclusions are verified. The first is that the presented estimation method is very valid and the obtained parameter values appropriate. The other is that the servo characteristics of the examined MC can be well approximated by the characteristics of first order lag system as well as the previous research, and the cutter path trajectory error can be also effectively estimated by the developed approach.
