Abstract

ABSTRACT AMECHANICAL harvesting system for fresh market apples which results in less damage to the fruits than existing systems is needed. This has been achieved by the use of combing fingers being drawn up through the branches of hedgerow trees. Trials showed that up to 85% of harvested fruits were of Grade I quality, although a significant proportion of the fruits were not harvested.
