Appendix Two. Gazetteer Of Archaeologically Recorded Domestic Sites In The Latin East

Abstract

The urban sites discussed in this appendix are Acre, Arsur, Caesarea, Caymont, Chastiau Pelerin, Famagusta, Jaffa, Jerusalem, and Nicosia. These are by no means the only towns in the Latin East, but they are the only sites for which have published archaeological evidence for houses or sufficient documentary evidence to enable to learn something of the nature of the domestic buildings they contained. A street village was partly excavated in 1994 beside the road to Nablus, north of Ramallah in a valley known as Wadi Haramiya. This village has not been identified and may relate to the nearby estate centre at Burj Bardawil. It consist of a group of elongated houses similar in layout to those at al-Kurum, Magna Mahumaria and Parva Mahumaria.Keywords: domestic sites; Latin East; manor houses; town houses; village houses
