Abstract
This chapter in Latin and German with a brief English preliminary note presents extracts from Geographia Generalis . The Latin text of the beginning sections of Geographia Generalis in the first edition of 1650 is juxtaposed with the German translation by Ernst-Christian Volkmann. The original pagination of the Latin text is indicated in the transcription. German readers may also want to consult a) Ulrich Staffhorst's translation of the letter of dedication (in Kaminske/Staffhorst 1986/87: 95-99), and b) Hanno Beck's translation and resume of significant parts of chapter 1. English readers are referred to Dugdale's translation in Varenius, A Compleat System (1712), and in particular to Appendix I in Bowen (276-283). Keywords: Geographia Generalis ; German translation; Latin text
