Abstract

This appendix presents some examples of themes treated in the demotic and Greek proverbs relevant to the examination of the body of ancient Egyptian and ancient Greek proverbial material that is found in proverb collections to offer an insight into the mechanics of proverb production in the literature of these two major Mediterranean cultures. Status of the demotic and Greek proverbs in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, interaction between the demotic and Greek proverbs and tenses in the demotic and Greek proverbs are examined.Keywords: ancient Egyptian proverbial material; ancient Greek proverbial material; Hellenistic periods; Roman periods
