Appendix 4. Final Text Of The AALCC’s 1966 Bangkok Principles On Status And Treatment Of Refugees

Abstract

This section deals with the final text of the AALCC'S 1966 Bangkok principles on status and treatment of refugees. It includes thirteen articles dealing with non-refoulement, minimum standards of treatment, expulsion and deportation, right of return, voluntary repatriation, right to compensation, burden sharing, and obligations. The term refugee shall apply to every person, who, owing to external aggression, occupation, foreign domination or events seriously disturbing public order in either part or the whole of his country of origin or nationality, is compelled to leave his place of habitual residence in order to seek refuge in another place outside his country of origin or nationality. A State shall accord to refugees treatment no less favorable than that generally accorded to aliens in similar circumstances, with due regard to basic human rights as recognized in generally accepted international instruments.Keywords:1966 Bangkok principles; human rights; refugees; right of return; right to compensation; voluntary repatriation
