Abstract
This appendix section of the book titled Serving Empire, Serving Nation presents the excerpts taken from the Transactions of the Royal Asiatic Society appendices on donations to the library and the museum. James Tod gave the vast majority of his materials to the Royal Asiatic Society, and a note in the Memoir of the Author in Travels indicates that he paid a high price to donate them. His collections of MSS., coins, and antiquities, the most valuable of which were presented to the India House or the Royal Asiatic Society, were subjected to heavy duties and charges in this country, amounting to ₤72, headed, in his hand-writing, “Encouragement to Oriental Literature.’ ”.Keywords: James Tod; Royal Asiatic Society
