Abstract

This is the appellate record for the case of Rubin vs. Old York DSS, a mock case which forms the basis for discussion in my forthcoming article The Plot Thickens: The Appellate Brief as Story. The article describes the process of writing the appellate brief in the Rubin case; this document provides helpful background information so the reader can follow the author's thought processes as she constructs her brief using narrative theory. The record can also be used as part of an exercise in writing other briefs (for example, the state's defense of the anti-gay adoption statute at issue in the case).
