Abstract

AbstractThis mixed‐method study analyzed student perceptions of engagement, motivation, and job preparedness in online courses. Results indicate that interior design students felt more engaged than apparel students. In addition, apparel student motivation and sense of job preparedness were lower than those of interior design students. Engagement and motivation are critical factors affecting learning. Students felt overall they were more engaged in synchronous, rather than asynchronous, courses. It is important to consider the proper mode to ensure students feel prepared for their industries of choice.
