Abstract

Apparatus has been developed which permits direct plots of magnetization against temperature to be derived from the output of a conventional 60 Hz hysteresis loop tracer. The rapidity and ease with which it may be used make this apparatus very convenient in survey studies of the magnetic properties of a variety of materials at fields to about 1 kOe and at temperautres from 1·5 to 500°K. The loop height is measured by a sampling technique which is insensitive to the detailed shape of the loop. The apparatus may be used for absolute measurements of saturation magnetization in some cases, but it is not viewed as an alternative to the more conventional magnetometers. At the highest gain which has been used, the output noise level corresponds to a sample moment of about 5 × 10−5 e.m.u.
