Abstract

It has not been clearly established yet whether the ε2/ε3/ε4 polymorphism of the gene encoding apolipoprotein E is associated with myocardial infarction. We addressed this issue in a large case-control sample and found no statistically significant relationship between the ε2/ε3/ε4 polymorphism and myocardial infarction. The ε2 allele and ε2ε3 genotype showed trends towards lower risks of myocardial infarction than the ε3ε3 genotype.
