Abstract

1BD. There was no significant difference between CD and UC. Concomitant medications did not influence the percentage of dendritic cells. The observed drop of PDC and MDC in active compared to inactive disease was statistically significant: p<0.005 and p<0.05, respectively. Bivariate statistical analysis demonstrated a significant correlation between PDC (correlation coefficient 0.54, p<0.001) and MDC (correlation coefficient 0.51, p<0.05) decrease and rise of disease activity markers such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). CONCLUSION: Patients with active IBD experience a statistically significant drop of peripheral PDC and MDC which correlates with other established disease activity markers. Our data suggests an involvement of dendritic cells in the immunopathogenesis of IBD.
