Abstract
In the usual Mbs, the distal (E7) His is known to play a key role in the stability properties of the bound O2; most of the autoxidation reaction of Mb02 to metMb is explained by proton-catalyzed processes involving the distal His as a catalytic residue via its imidazole ring and a proton-relay mechanism (1), as well as the distal His stabilizing the bound O2 by hydrogen bond formation (2).
