Abstract
The use of scales designed for clinical practice in the field of Forensic Medicine has been widely recognised. We look at the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and the Injury Severity Score (ISS), which are used to measure the severity of the injuries and survival. We present the case of a fatal fall from a height in the working environment, legally classified as a crime of omission of duty to assist due to the alleged delay in medical assistance. The routine use of these scales in normal forensic medicine work should provide objective data that would help correct the personal subjectivity of the diagnostic impression.
