Abstract

This paper analyzes and examines the principles of opera directing by two famous theater authors – Adolf Appia and Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavski. We will try to demarcate and establish two disjunctive aesthetic view-points of opera direction – the principle of symbolization and the principle of realism, by presenting the basic principles of the aforementioned concepts of the mentioned authors. The analysis of the aforementioned postulates is necessary since, over time, a more detailed discussion of the problems and issues of opera directing was developed by many opera creators, and the fact is that they are still very much relevant today.
