Abstract
The APF Gold Medal for Impact in Psychology recognizes Jillian C. Shipherd for her extensive work to improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) veterans. Jillian Shipherd has pioneered national training programs for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on all facets of transgender health care to support policy changes and improvements, positioning clinicians to evaluate and treat this previously ignored and stigmatized group of veterans. Her research has received wide attention in the media and in senior management within the VA. Dr. Shipherd has taken her research findings and applied them to make groundbreaking change throughout the VA spanning education and policy. Her trailblazing work has had a transformational impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ veterans and will continue to affect access to care for generations to come.
