Abstract

Radiation thermometers (RT) are calibrated with black bodies (CN) whose opening must sufficiently cover the nominal target of the thermometer. Due to possible imperfections in its optical system, radiation from regions outside the target can reach the detector. This is the effect of the source size (ETF) and constitutes an important limitation in the use of TR in applications especially in an industrial environment and source among others of measurement uncertainty.
