Abstract

This paper investigates the use of pseudo-random sequences to generate non-uniform element spacing for the design of planar arrays having uniform excitations. Array factor results for the pseudo-random sequence, random, and uniform plus jitter are reported and compared. It turns out that there are tradeoffs between peak sidelobe level and minimum separation distance between elements. The Hammersley sequence reduces grating lobes while maintaining a large separation between elements.
