Abstract

In this paper I analyze different approaches to understanding transcendental apperception (TA) and the subject in Kantian transcendental philosophy. Regarding that my aim is to determine the relationship between TA and the subject. I formulate two basic questions: (1) What is the relationship between the logical subject and the noumenal one, the so-called ‘I-in- itself’?; (2) Is it allowed (and in which way) to identify TA with the logical subject (the logical I)? I try to show that Kant does not provide a clear and unequivocal answer to these questions.
