Abstract

Many undergraduate EM textbooks explain the operating principle of an electrostatic precipitator, which is a commercial device used to reduce pollution by removing objectionable particles from a gas. How about "electropollution"? Is it the consequence of a malfunctioning electrostatic precipitator?! Probably not, but your guess is as good as mine, since the term "electropollution" is not defined in any technical dictionary. If you are really curious now, you may wantto get hold of a copy of Biological Effects of Electropollution: Brain Tumors and Experimental Models (S.K. Dutta and R.M. Millis, (Eds.) Philadelphia: Information Ventures, Inc., 1987, 245 pages, $45.00. A book-review can be found in the Sept. '87 issue of "The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine".)
