Abstract
The occurrence of stent-induced new entry tears (SINE) in patients undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for aortic dissection is an important complication associated with high reintervention and death. In this issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, by systematically reviewing all cross-sectional imaging after TEVAR for all indications, Doberne and colleagues,1 from Duke University, have identified the occurrence of stent-graft induced aortic wall injury, or SAWI, a broader term that encompasses all forms of aortic wall injury after TEVAR—including SINE, which occurs at the interface of a stent graft with a pre-existing dissection membrane.
