Abstract

Action of different tanning agents used on rabbit hide tanning: physical- mechanic tests. The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the action of different tanning agents in the processing of rabbit hides over skin resistance. Fifty skins of rabbit hides were submitted to different tanning agents in the tanning stage (T1 = 6% Chromossal B ® chrome salts; T2 = 22% Clarotan-x8 ® vegetable tannin; T3 = 22% Syntac CW ® synthetic tannin; T4 = 12% Weibull ® vegetable tannin + 10% Syntac F ® synthetic tannin; T5 = 22% Weibull ® vegetable tannin). The specimens were removed from the skin, in the dorsal region, in longitudinal and transverse directions according to the head-tail axis. The tanning agents and removal of the specimens had no influence on the traction test (9.28 to 11.63 N mm -2 ) and applied force (17.91 N to 24.85 N) in the tests. Tanning with chrome salts (62.85%) and Clarotan-x8 ® (70.28%) provided higher values of elongation in comparison with the others tanning agents. The leather specimens in the transverse direction (59.12%) presented greater elongation than the longitudinal ones (49.72%). Tanning with chrome salts (22.70 N mm -1 ), Clarotan-x8 ® (25.94 N mm -1 ) and Weibull ® (21.58 N mm -1 ) resulted in skins with higher resistance to tearing. The direction of removal of the specimens had no influence on progressive tearing. The tanning techniques with chrome salts and Clarotan-x8 ® resulted in leathers with

Summary

Animais experimentais e processamento
