Abstract

About 10% of healthy newborns develop an unconjugated serum bilirubin level of more than 12.9 mg/dL (220 μmol/L) in early neonatal period which can be a cause for concern because unconjugated bilirubin is neurotoxic. Early and frequent feeding helps in preventing unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. The aimwas to determine what proportion of healthy hyperbilirubinemic exclusively breastfed term neonates exhibit an insufficient milk intake.
