Abstract

2528 normal ultrasound head scans (no cerebral lesions) obtained after scanning and 3856 at risk newborns with gestational age (GA) between 27 and 43 weeks were analysed. HUS were done with General Electric RT-400 and ESAOTE BIOMEDICA AU4 IDEA through the anterior fontanelle and linear measurements of the lateral cerebral ventricles were done using sectorial transducers of 7.5, 7 and 5 MHz. The VI/MC was calculated in the median coronal view by dividing the distance between the external walls of the lateral ventricles to the distance between the internal surface of the parietal bones and reported as percent. Statistical analysis of the data— collected using a personal electronic database—was done using SPSS 10.0 for Windows.
