Abstract

Brain neurotransmitters are modulated by estrogen; additionally, estrogen has been shown to influence cognitive function, anxiety, and compulsive behavior. Furthermore, recent reports demonstrate a correlation between reduced estrogen levels and the onset of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or exacerbation of pre-existing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Previous research has shown that AKAP13 augments estrogen receptor action by binding to estrogen receptors alpha and beta and is present in the brain.
