Abstract
Abstract Application For the first time character orders are applied to interprete absorption spectra: a high acetamid character order in N-acetylcarbazole explains the blue shift observed. The hypsochromic effect of acyl groups in such compounds is clarified. Also an explanation of the changes of CO stretch frequencies is given on the basis of character orders.
