Abstract

In the early postmortem interval the so-called nomogram method (NM) is applied to derive a time of death interval. Independently, police investigations can determine a possible range for the time of death; however, such limitations to the possible time of death have consequences on the width and probability of the NM interval, so that corrections must be made for this. This is made possible by means of the conditional probability distribution (CPD). The theoretical foundations, typical case scenarios and application of the method using a dedicated Excel spreadsheet are demonstrated.
