Abstract

This is the Bulletin I’ve never thought I was going to write, and now, deeply sad, I must do it. Today I have to inform a very sad notice. Our friend Antonio de la Cruz died this morning. It is very difficult to talk about the farewell of an incredible and so loved person when you are not a writer, but Antonio was simple and practic, one of the greatests otorhinolaryngologists, an excellent doctor and teacher, he knows about all and travels around the world to explain it with a simple speech. He was the one who open us to the secrets about surgery techniques and teach them in many languages he knew. But over all, he was the friend always present, with his advices, his kindness and smile, with a joke and singing a tango. He was always present, no matter how far or in what country he was, his desire to teach was more important. He was an otologist citizen from the world. There are many scientific works and otology surgical techniques that remain, but there are many friends around the world to whom it will be very sad not to see him in congress halls or speaking in lectures with the attendings. It will be very sad as well, knowing he won’t be at the House Ear Institute welcoming us with his kindness. My mentor is gone and It was very glad to have known you, only our memories remains. Antonio, thank you so much for everything you gave us in your life, for your sincerity, your friendship. It is a real sorrow not having you with us. A big salute as always, a pray for you and your family, and my personal admiration and of the entire panamerican society of otorhinolaryngology and the panamerican international committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
