Abstract

Corynebacterium parvum (C. parvum) pretreatment decreased death rate of B alb/c mice inoculated with Meth A ascitic tumour, CBA mice given S 37 ascitic tumour and C 3H/He mice given Ehrlich's ascitic tumour. Intravenous C. parvum did not affect the death rate from ascitic Meth A tumour and intraperitoneal C. parvum did not affect the growth of solid Meth A tumour. The protective effects of intraperitoneal C. parvum on ascitic Meth A tumour was maximal with low tumour dose and the duration of effect was between 25 and 50 days. Splenectomy did not affect the antitumour activity. The findings that previous thymectomy or antilymphocyte serum did not affect the antitumour activity of C. parvum suggest that its action is not mediated through a change of cell mediated immunity.
