Abstract

The current attempt reports the fabrication of polythiophene (PTh) grafted 3-dimensional carbon fibre composite by in-situ emulsion polymerization of thiophene (Th) monomer on carbon fibre (CF) and with graphene as filler. The antistatic studies of polythiophene-graphene grafted carbon fibre composites exhibit static charge decay period in the order of 0.2–0.5 s at 10% cut-off of high corona voltage. EMI shielding effectiveness of the composites in Ku-band illustrates a shielding effectiveness of microwaves from −15 dB to −30 dB. The shielding and antistatic performance of polythiophene-graphene grafted carbon substrate composite confirm that composite can be employ as efficiently for the protection of static charge and utilize in wrapping of electronic equipments.
