Abstract
A specific backward-wave antispecular reflection from the interface of structures or media is analyzed. The reflection coefficients are calculated, and the dominant contribution of the alternative reflection is demonstrated. The supercritical (with respect to angle of incidence and frequency) total reflection and improper surface wave or edge wave in the plate are considered. It is demonstrated that the effect is similar to the Andreev quantum reflection of electrons (which is also alternative) and the elastic reflection of a mechanical top.
