Abstract

AbstractEsophageal achalasia and paraesophageal hiatal hernia is a special situation which needs additional anti-reflux surgery during the management of the disease. For achalasia, Heller myotomy with anti-reflux surgery is mandatory to avoid postsurgical reflux complication. This procedure also available with minimally invasive surgical approach and showed high remission rate (90%) and low morbidity rate (6.3%). Surgical treatment should be considered for symptomatic paraesophageal hernia. Surgical procedures for paraesophageal hernia consisted with reduction of the herniated organs, securing the proper length of the intra-abdominal esophagus, crura repair, and anti-reflux surgery. Anti-reflux surgical procedure with or without Collis gastroplasty should be considered to reduce postoperative dysphasia and reflux.KeywordsAchalasiaParaesophageal hiatal herniaAnti-reflux surgery
