Abstract

Official guidelines say do not use antipsychotics as a first‐line treatment for clinical high risk of psychosis (CHR‐P). In the real world, however, children and adolescents with CHR‐P are more likely than adults with CHR‐P to be prescribed first‐line antipsychotics — 30% versus 20%. Additionally, it may well be that the antipsychotics, when given to CHR‐P patients, attenuate the transition to psychosis. Follow‐up of all patients with CHR‐P is needed to eliminate this confounder, researchers have found.
