Abstract

Objective To explore the antiproliferative effect of salvia miltiorrhiza monomer IH764-3 on trabeculectomy of rabbit eyes. Methods Thirty-two rabbit eyes were divided into 4 groups randomly with eight rabbits in each group:control group, positive control group, experiment group I and experiment group Ⅱ.Both eyes of each rabbit underwent standard trabeculectomy.Subconjunctival injections of 0.2 mL 2 g/L IH764-3,5 g/L IH764-3,normal saline solution and 25 g/L 5-FU were performed in experiment group Ⅰ,group Ⅱ,control group and positive control group once per day in the first week and once every two days in the second week after surgery.Observation items included preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP),postoperative IOP,filtering bleb, filtering passway, scar structure and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA).Results Experiment group Ⅱ had better therapeutic effect than other three groups on functional filtering bleb,IOP and PCNA at 7 d,15 d and 30 d postoperatively.Conjunctival wound leaking or corneal epithelial damage had not been found. Conclusion IH764-3 has stronger antiproliferative effect on trabeculectomy than 5-FU with less intraoperative and postoperative side effects. Key words: Trabeculectomy; IH764-3; Fibroblast proliferation; Glaucoma
