Abstract

Accumulating evidence found that antidiabetic therapy was closely associated with tumor. Antioxidant agents are the important component in the treatment of diabetes and its complications. Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in tumor development and antioxidant antidiabetic agents have the potential effects on the biological behavior of tumors. Our study published recently on Science Translational Medicine found that antioxidant antidiabetic agents could increase nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)expression, which may potentially accelerates tumor metastasis in mice models. This suggests that antioxidants should be administered with caution in diabetic patients with cancer. (Chin J Endocrinol Metab, 2016, 32: 799-802) Key words: Diabetes mellitus; Tumor; Antioxidant
