Abstract

Inonotus Obliquus extracts(fruiting body, mycelium) were evaluated for protective effects against the adverse effects of a chronic high fat diet. High fat diet‐induced obese C57BL/6J mice were divided into six groups; normal diet control group (ND), high fat diet control group (HD), HD+fruiting body 80°C hot water extract supplementation group(F80), HD+fruiting body 150°C hot water extract supplementation group(F150), HD+mycelium 80°C hot water extract supplementation group(M80) and HD+mycelium 150°C hot water extract supplementation group(M150) and fed for 12 weeks. Final body weight, epididymal fat % and serum total cholesterol concentrations were significantly higher in the HD than ND, but were lower when the high fat diet was combined with fruiting body extract or mycelium extract. Blood glucose levels after fasting for 4hr in F80, F150 and M150 were significantly lower than those of the HD. Inonotus Obliquus extract supplements altered levels of ACS, CPT‐1, UCP‐1 and ACC mRNA expression in liver and fat tissue. These results suggest that Inonotus Obliquus extract supplementation has beneficial effects in preventing diet‐induced obesity and related metabolic abnormalities.
