Abstract
The theme of World Antibiotic Awareness Week on Nov 18–24, 2022 is “preventing antimicrobial resistance together”. This is an important message when global estimates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) revealed a larger burden of disease in 2019 than expected, with deaths directly attributable to bacterial AMR estimated at 1·27 million globally, greater than for HIV/AIDS or malaria.1 Many of these deaths will have been preventable through reduced infection exposure and improved access to effective antibiotics.
