Abstract
Tube dilution studies with a new antibiotic, thiostrepton, were carried out on a series of 11 strains of nonhemolytic streptococci and 10 strains each of Streptococcus viridans, Str. pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staph. albus and Lactobacillus acidophilus. The antibiotic has a considerable inhibitory capacity in extremely low concentrations against the microorganisms listed. Further laboratory and clinical studies of the usefulness of this antibiotic for topical therapy are indicated.
