Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are two antimalarial drugs to which the FDA recently gave emergency approval for treating COVID-19 infections. Scott Turner provides a history of these drugs’ uses, and explains how they work against the very different cases of the malaria parasite and RNA viral infection. Why should one drug be effective against these two unrelated organisms?
