Abstract

1. 1. Histamine dihydrochloride in one or two per cent solution (in terms of the base) in a mixture of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, octyl alcohol, water and ethyl alcohol applied to the intact skin of human beings is rapidly absorbed and produces a typical local reaction in most of the subjects tested. 2. 2. Various antihistaminic drugs dissolved in this vehicle, in concentration of one to 5 per cent and applied together with or before histamine on the same skin areas, reduced the histamine response. 3. 3. A new antihistaminic, Thenfadil (N,N-dimethyl-N′-(3-thenyl)-N′-(2-pyridyl)-ethylenediamine), appears to be the most active of those tried in relieving the histamine skin symptoms.
