Abstract

The decapeptide gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) has a pivotal role in control of both male and female fertility. It is one of those molecules which has been conserved through evolution. The primary amino acid sequence of the hormone from ovine and. porcine sources is identical to that of human. The peptide controls the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary and the same molecule is biologically active in a large number of species (Schally et al, 1973).
