Abstract

The ability of anti-human IgE antiserum to elicit reverse cutaneous anaphylactic (RCA) reactions in the skin of the marsupial Setonix brachyurus (the quokka) suggested that the quokka homocytotropic antibody (HCA) might share antigenic determinants with human IgE. The application of the ‘Phadebas’ (Pharmacia) assay for human IgE to quokka sera provided further evidence for the existence of antigenic cross-reactivity between these antibodies.
