Abstract

Studies of the toxicity of oral contraceptives are continually going on. Areas of special note include liver function, neurological syndromes, impaired subsequent fertility following discontinuance of use, cerebral artery occlusion, erythema nodosum and vulvo-vaginal candidiasis. At the time of this report, none of these relationships had been proven. Studies of the mechanism of action, acceptability of oral contraceptives and lowered dosage forms are briefly mentioned. A potential exists for the use of injectable contraceptives. The continued usefulness of IUDs is noted by a variety of published papers.
