Abstract

The magnetization, specific heat, thermal expansion and electrical resistivity have been measured for EuAl2. Anomalies associated with the antiferromagnetic transition were observed in their temperature dependence at or below 30 K. The thermal and transport properties were analyzed by the effective Debye temperature model, in which the temperature dependence of ϑD is taken into account. It is shown that the s-f exchange interaction of EuAl2 is considerably smaller than in GdAl2. The anomalous magnetization process of EuAl2 is also presented and discussed.
