Abstract

Neutron-diffraction measurements on nuclear spins in copper have shown two different types of antiferromagnetic ordering, characterized by the twelve cubic-symmetry-related →k=(π/a)(2/3,2/3,0) propagation vectors and the three →k=(π/a)(1,0,0) vectors. The particular propagation vectors that are stable in an external field depend on the alignment of →B with respect to the crystalline axes. In this paper, the observed selection rules are compared with theory and found to be in good agreement.
