Abstract

Expressions are derived for the reflection coefficients ofelectromagnetic waves with p and s type polarizations from asemi-infinite dielectric medium having an inhomogeneous layer. Theinfluence of the layer was taken into account by the method of perturbationtheory in a quadratic approximation of the layer thickness. A method isproposed for converting expressions derived using perturbation theory intoother expressions that give more accurate values of the reflectioncoefficient. The angular dependences of the reflection coefficient obtainedby the developed method are compared with those obtained by the numericalsolution of electrodynamic equations. Requirements for the layercharacteristics are formulated to minimize the error of the analyticalsolution.
