Abstract

Plants of the genus Clerodendrum (Lamiaceae) is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. Plants of this genus are used both empirically and scientifically as anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimalarial, antiviral, antihypertensive, hypolipidemic, antioxidant, and antitumor. Results of the molecular docking simulation of chemical content of these plants could potentially provide an anticancer effect. This paper aims to review the anticancer activity of plant genus Clerodendrum based on scientific data. The method used in this study is the literature study. Searches were conducted online (in the database PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar) and on various books (Farmakope Herbal Indonesia and PROSEA). A total 12 plants of the genus Clerodendrum have anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo, thus potentially to be developed as a source of new active compounds with anticancer activity.

Tanaman dari genus Clerodendrum (Lamiaceae) tersebar luas di daerah tropis dan subtropis sebagai pohon-pohon kecil, semak atau herba (Shrivastava & Patel 2007) dan pertama kali dideskripsikan oleh Linnaeus pada tahun 1753 dengan mengidentifikasi C. infortunatum L. (Leeratiwong et al 2011). Tanaman genus Clerodendrum digunakan dalam pengobatan tradisional oleh berbagai suku yang tersebar di Asia dan Afrika. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian secara in vitro maupun menggunakan hewan uji, tanaman genus Clerodendrum memiliki potensi sebagai antiinflamasi, antidiabetes, antimalaria, antivirus, antihipertensi, hipolipidemik, antioksidan (Shrivastava & Patel 2007). Hasil simulasi menyimpulkan bahwa lima senyawa yaitu apigenin 7-glucoside, hispidulin, scutellarein-7-O-beta-D-glucuronate, acteoside dan verbascoside memiliki potensi berikatan dengan target protein kanker dan menimbulkan efek terapi. Artikel ilmiah dari database online yang masuk dalam kriteria inklusi adalah original research dan menggunakan metode in vivo atau metode in vivo untuk uji aktivitas antikanker. Penelusuran pada buku dilakukan pada Farmakope Herbal Indonesia (literatur resmi) dan Plant Resources of South-East Asia (PROSEA)
