Abstract

Excretory/secretory products of Taenia saginata metacestodes and an extract of whole T crassiceps metacestodes were found to be more specific antigens than a saline extract of T saginata proglottides for use with the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay in the detection of antibodies in serum samples from cattle in herds with a history of T saginata metacestode infection. It was possible to detect serum antibodies to Tsaginata in sera from three out of four herds of cattle with a history of T saginata metacestode infection on the farm.
